Gran Colombia: When Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, and Venezuela were a single country

Already 200 years, New Granada (the colonial name of Colombia), Ecuador, Panama and Venezuela took up arms for the call of Bolivar to the freedom of the Spanish colony.

The then-three countries (Panama seceded from Colombia in the early TWENTIETH Century that they were close to another 200 years, dominated by the empire iberian, had decided to declare their independence and build a party andean take the crown and emancipate slaves.

Colombeia

One can not speak of The Great Colombia without talking of Francisco de Miranda..The original name of Colombia appears for the first time in his work Colombeia. It was a project of independence, which took many of the principles of the French revolution and sought to integrate the south american continent.

Miranda was one of the precursors of independence, because he was the one who laid the foundation of the project of The Gran Colombia as an international superpower. And the same was planned for Europe and the united States.

The thought of Miranda would be born then discìpulos that would help to realize the mission would be like Bolívar, San Martín, O'higgins, Nariño, Madariaga and many other liberators.

The conformation of the republic

After the patriots of south america were the last realistic, was ratified in Cúcuta, the conformation of the country as an independent republic. In addition to the annexation of Colombia and Venezuela within the same state.

This unification lasted 11 years, in which they spent a lot of stuff. Among them an attack Bolívar which is blamed Francisco de Paula Santander was exiled. Basically the dispute between the two was that Santander wanted to strengthen the legal framework of the country. While, Bolivar I wanted to continue giving swords and releasing territories. It was the struggle of the federalism against the centralism.

Separation of the Gran Colombia

Finally, with Bolívar sick and the rulers regional increasingly eager for secession, The Gran Colombia is divided. José Antonio Páez declared Venezuela independent and proclaimed himself President of Venezuela.

Shortly after Ecuador would do the same, ending, then in the political division of the four nations that we know today.
